Linglot

Hello and welcome to Linglot.com. My name is Zach Graham and I am a medical student from Minnesota. In my free time, I love to study language and learn how to converse with people of different continents, nations, and ethnic groups. I realize that where I live, the United States, is becoming a nation of not just one language, but numerous languages. It’s now recommended that people learn a second language, and it won’t be long before it’s required to function in society.

Anyways, a little about me. I’ve studied Spanish for about two years, entirely on my own, using courses such as Pimsleur and Michel Thomas, as wells as numerous dictionaries, books, and online resources (such as Tomísimo). Spanish seemed like the way to get started for me, as it is the #2 language in the United States, and I don’t have to go very far to find someone to talk to (my brother-in-law is Hispanic, too). I also find it to be very chic and a beautiful language.

Another language I’ve been tinkering with a little bit is Brazilian Portuguese. It’s so similar to Spanish it’s insane, at least in my opinion. I plan on doing a lot of traveling to South America in the future, so Portuguese seemed like a good idea. Since it’s so close to Spanish, I practically already have a 1/2 off discount on Portuguese from my knowledge of Spanish.

In addition to these two, I have a strong interest in French, Norwegian, Japanese, and Arabic. I haven’t yet gotten to these much, but they’re definitely on my to-do list. Hopefully I’ll be able to get to them someday. A friend of mine is in the military and is soon going to be in an intense Arabic learning program. 42 weeks of all-day 6-days-a-week solid Arabic. I’m very jealous of him.

I hope those who visit this place like what they see, and I’ll do my best to provide some interesting info. I hope to contribute to this for years to come, and what better time to start than at the beginning of a year?
